Republishing Guidelines

Share Our Journalism

True Signal Media believes accountability journalism should reach the widest possible audience. We encourage other newsrooms, publications, and platforms to republish our work under the guidelines below.

The Short Version

Most True Signal Media content can be republished for free with proper attribution. No permission needed for articles marked "Free to Republish." Just follow the guidelines below.

What You Can Republish

  • Investigations: Long-form investigative reports, unless marked otherwise
  • Daily Brief coverage: Breaking news and daily accountability reporting
  • Signal Dispatch: Analysis and deep-dive reporting
  • FOIA document releases: Documents we publish are public records—use them freely
  • Data and graphics: Charts, tables, and visualizations we create (with attribution)

What Requires Permission

  • Photography: Images may be licensed from third parties—check individual image credits
  • Syndicated content: Articles marked as syndicated or from partner organizations
  • Exclusive embargoed material: Content under embargo until a specified release date
  • Excerpts over 250 words: For substantial excerpts, contact us first

To request permission, email [email protected]

Attribution Requirements

When republishing True Signal Media content, include the following:

1
Byline

Credit the original author by name

2
Publication Credit

Include "True Signal Media" in the attribution line

3
Link to Original

Include a working hyperlink to the original article on TrueSignalMedia.news

4
No Editing

Publish the article in full without altering the text, or clearly indicate any cuts with [...] or "excerpt"

Sample Attribution

Use this format at the top or bottom of the republished article:

This article was originally published by True Signal Media and is republished here under their republishing guidelines. Read the original article.

Or this shorter version for space-constrained formats:

By [Author Name], True Signal Media. Original article.

What You Cannot Do

  • Sell our content or place it behind a paywall
  • Remove or obscure the byline or True Signal Media credit
  • Edit the article in ways that change its meaning or conclusions
  • Republish in a way that implies True Signal Media endorses your organization
  • Use our content for political advertising or campaign materials
  • Translate articles without permission (translations require approval)

Using FOIA Documents

Government documents obtained through FOIA requests and published in our FOIA Commons are public records. You may:

  • Use, republish, and reference these documents freely
  • Quote from them without permission
  • Include them in your own reporting

We appreciate (but don't require) a credit noting that the documents were obtained by True Signal Media. This helps readers trace the chain of custody and supports our FOIA work.

Questions?

If you're unsure whether your intended use is covered by these guidelines, or if you want to discuss a partnership or syndication arrangement, contact us:
